START Internship Program Overview

The START Internship Program offers paid internship opportunities year-round, providing participants with hands-on research experience in the field of terrorism and homeland security. Throughout the internship, participants are exposed to cutting-edge theories, methodologies, and the latest information while engaging with the critical questions faced by homeland security practitioners, policymakers, and researchers. Interns are mentored in a professional environment dedicated to fostering student success and preparing the next generation of homeland security scholars and practitioners.

Eligibility and Program Structure

The program is open to undergraduate and graduate students, as well as select recent graduates, from any academic institution and related disciplines. Each internship spans one academic term, with the following time commitments:

Fall and Spring Semesters: Minimum of 10 hours per week

Summer Term: Minimum of 20 hours per week

Interns are required to work onsite alongside research project staff, gaining direct experience with ongoing research initiatives. Internship positions vary depending on the current research portfolio. Additionally, participants are encouraged to earn academic credit for their internship.
